About Us

Karen F. Winner

Ms. Winner is the original author of the Statement of Client Rights (New York’s Court Rules, 22 NYCRR 1210.1). This is a disclosure statement that all divorce lawyers are required to provide to their clients, prior to handling their divorces.

In her law practice, Karen Winner has briefed multiple cases before the Supreme Court in New York and Appellate Divisions, on a wide variety of topics.

Karen has considerable experience in litigating financial and property issues including financial fraud claims,  arising from marital relationships; she assembles a team when necessary, on complex issues. Often this litigation requires cutting through the opponents’ deceptions, evasions, and manipulative tactics to expose the facts.

Karen also provides advice and preventive strategies for people to solve their legal problems in order to avoid the pitfalls of court, and has extensive experience advising clients in the divorce process.

Karen has extensive experience in negotiating and litigating attorney-client disputes and has represented both sides.  She also has extensive experience advising spouses of their rights through the divorce process.  Karen has experience representing people financially damaged by their own attorneys — and has brought precedent-setting legal malpractice claims

Karen dedicates her general litigation practice to representing those who have been exploited, defrauded, or harmed in consumer, business and family matters.  She has handled  breach of fiduciary duty claims and  elder abuse claims, an area which greatly interests her. With her analytic and journalist background, Karen has extensive experience in providing independent, objective investigations,  as applied to  business.

Karen only takes cases in which she believes she can make a difference for the client, either in the outcome of the case or the client’s experience as he or she makes the tough journey through the civil legal system.

Personal attention and dedication to the client’s cause are the hallmarks of Karen’s solo practice.

In addition to her law practice, Karen Winner has joined the faculty at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, in Manhattan, New York where she is teaching a new course on financial fraud in divorce.
